The Mars-Uranus-North Node Conjunction in Taurus

I have been thinking a great deal lately about world building. Maybe it’s my upcoming solar return. Maybe it’s the seeming futility of living in late-stage Pluto in Capricorn. I actually think it has a lot more to do with the Mars-Uranus-North Node conjunction, perfecting today, by which countless hordes of astrologers have descended upon the internet hive mind to announce gloomy predictions of economic and environmental collapse, terrorism, and war.

But. I am an evolutionary astrologer. And everything (everything? – just about everything) that touches the lunar North Node opens up a yawning mental chasm of delicious possibility for what is Now and what is yet to come. When I conceive of the North Node, it is like seeing the North Star, a point upon which I can chart a course for greater self-actualization. It encourages me to think about the world I want to see, the world I want to build, even as comfortable trappings of the old world fall into obscurity.

If we are going to be blunt, no predictions of economic and environmental collapse, terrorism, and war are necessary anyhow because, well, here we are. This is reality. But emphasizing these conditions cause us to feel helpless, and this is where I tend to diverge from astrological fatalism because I don’t see the value in it. The anxiety of living in unprecedented times is measurable. The last thing anyone needs is the equivalent of an zodiacal ghost story, with Mar-Uranus-NN-as-jump-scare.

Instead of speaking to structural conditions that we have little control over (because we are not world powers (but if you are a world power reading this, you have explaining to do)) we should be focusing on the small, but significant, ways we can make a difference, personally, interpersonally, and locally. Shouting into the void does not effect change. Cultivating lifestyles and relationships that uplift the collective is how we can effect change. Conscious intent and action has an impact. You have an impact. Always.

When we talk about Mars, we reference violence.

Or agency.

When we talk about Uranus we reference chaos.

Or liberation.

Inevitably, when we talk about the North Node, we reference discomfort, unease. There is really no other way to spin it. The North Node is unfamiliar territory. It lies directly counter to the South Node with all of its safe and stultifying knowns. But there is beauty in leaning into discomfort. Leaning into discomfort allows you to restructure reality and build new worlds in real time. In order to create something new, something old must be released. There is a trade. It is a magic principle and one deeply encoded within the energetics of Uranus in particular.

The sea change that I see occurring, and which I have seen occurring with increasing frequency over the past ten years (AND which I have especially seen ramped up since the 2020 Saturn-Pluto conjunction), is that people are starting to become more curious than afraid. In fact, it is the clinging to something predictable that is actually creating an inhospitable environment to support life and new growth. Predictability is antithetical to possibility.

This process is actually more like fear – overwhelm – nihilism – curiosity. It’s like a prolonged cycle of grief, this coming to terms with life’s cyclical nature. Once you hit a feeling of futility, there is really no option but to invest your energy into what brings you passion. I’ve witnessed people waking up to this over the past few years. (I’m “people”.)

When I look at the Mars-Uranus-North Node conjunction from a psychological point of view (remembering that the All is mental), I do not see societal collapse, although to be sure, I’m not naïve of the writing on certain fractured walls. What I see is society waking up to find that the foundations upon which old-world definitions of success, security and satiety have been built are inviable, and it is wholly within our power – in fact it is our destiny – to begin crafting new definitions under the guiding hand of our intuition and instincts. Liberation and agency. Uranus and Mars.
